2004 Tournament to be Broadcast in HDTV
CBS Sports announced today it will broadcast the final two rounds of the Buick Championship on Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29 (3:00-6:00 PM, ET, both days), in high definition television format. Once again, CBS Sports will broadcast the 2004 Masters® in HDTV on April 8-11. "We are very pleased to showcase PGA TOUR events for the first time in HDTV," said Sean McManus, President, CBS Sports. "With the clarity of HDTV pictures viewers will have a whole new experience from reading the greens to enjoying the beauty of the courses on the PGA TOUR." "This is exciting news for the Buick Championship," said Dan Baker, Tournament Director. "Everywhere we travel in the U.S. we hear questions from golf fans who have never been here, but they've seen it on TV and they want to know what it's like in person. Now they will see those 70,000 fans per day, the wonderful views of the Connecticut River, the beautiful course at the TPC at River Highlands and the downtown Hartford skyline in even greater clarity. Also, all of those TV viewers will be able to hear 70,000 people roaring and cheering in Digital Surround Sound. That is a terrific promotion for Connecticut as a beautiful, exciting place to live. It will play like a six hour Tourism advertisement for the whole region." About the Buick Championship: The Buick Championship, New England's premier sporting event, is one of the PGA TOUR's most well-attended events, typically drawing more than 300,000 spectators each year. The Tournament has raised more than $24 million for Hartford area charities since it's inception in 1952. The Buick Championship is the sole fundraiser of the Greater Hartford Jaycees. The Jaycees channel those funds back into the community to improve the lives of those most in need by feeding the hungry, building affordable housing, helping children and much more. The Greater Hartford Jaycees is an organization of 600 volunteers, ages 21-39, which promotes leadership training through community service.
