Giving back is the heart of the PGA Tour. To fulfill that mission, The Buick Championship offers two ways for charities and non-profit groups to raise money to support their causes and programs. Of course, all of the net proceeds of the tournament are reinvested in our community through the Greater Hartford Jaycees and the Greater Hartford Foundation. The two programs described below give local non-profits and charities two ways to use the Buick Championship as a fundraising engine to support their endeavors.
Birdies for Charity
The Birdies for Charity program is a pledge-based fundraiser. Charities and non-profits use literature and forms provided free of charge by The Buick Championship to solicit pledges based on the number of birdies shot by PGA Tour Professionals during the tournament. The pros card between 1,500 and 2,000 birdies each year. So, at a penny per birdie, donors will be giving $15 to $20 to the soliciting charity or non-profit. Best of all, the charities that solicit the pledges keep 100% of the donations and The Buick Championship handles all of the program administration.

To make the program even more exciting, Birdies for Charity includes a contest to guess the actual number of birdies the pros score during the tournament.  The three people donating to a charity or non-profit through the program who come closest to the actual number win great prizes.  Past winners have received John Deere lawn tractors.
